Alan Simpson, the director of Rover Works B.C. Ltd, was preceded by his Grandfather Hunter who was a co-owner of the "County Garage" in Lanark, Scotland during the 1930's. Growing up in Oak Bay, Victoria, British Columbia Alan was steeped in a world of British automobiles. His Cub Master "Akela" had an MK VII Jaguar with a sun roof. Cubs would hang out of the sun roof while Akela accelerated down the straight away on the way to camp in Sooke. The Scout leader drove a Rover 2000 TC that always reeked of fine British leather....a memorable smell. It was not unusual to see a Bentley join the throngs of MG and Triumph, Sunbeams and Jaguars that lined Oak Bay Avenue. In this environment a passion for British cars and all things mechanical was born...
After working Alberta's Oil patch, a career in Social Work and all spare moments devoted to his Land Rover and TR3A, Alan decided to launch Rover Works B.C. Ltd in 1981. British Land Rover's abandonment of North America prior to 1987 left a void for parts and service especially in the interior of British Columbia. Rover Works B.C. was there with a plan and desire to provide the highest quality parts and service. A vast array of imported parts for Rovers as well as sports cars kept many fine vehicles roadworthy. Relationships with the premier craftsman in England restoring pre-war and post-war sports cars resulted in the opportunity to offer quality services and parts to the finest British autos including Triumph, Austin Healey, Jaguar, MG, Riley, Jensen and others.
Rover Works B.C. Ltd experienced rapid growth necessitating the hiring of two apprentices. Countless restorations and refurbishments were accomplished over the years. These restorations can be found in many States as far away as Alabama and Florida as well as nearly every province in Canada. 1999 saw Alan specialize by selling the portion of his business dealing with Range Rover, Discovery and domestic to one of his now qualified journeymen. Work with Series Land Rover, pre-war/ postwar sports car, and British parts supply is now selected for Alan's exclusive attention.... Quality is controlled...the highest standards maintained.
